Completing the Application Form
The application form will be available through the Severn Postgraduate Medical Education Recruitment portal - I:CAMS, we advise that you do not leave submitting your application to the last minute.
The sections that were used in the 2010 application form were:
- Education and Professional qualification
- Training Courses Attended
- Employment History
- Details of Clinical Experience
- Audits and Research
- Practical and Clinical Skills
- Personal Statement – explaining why you want a career in this specialty and what sub-speciaty interests you have? What attributes do you have that make you feel suitable? How have you shown commitment? And any other information to support your application?
Please remember you will also need to give the name and address of two referees and you will be required to approach these referees prior to interview.
Shortlisting
Shortlisting for ACCS posts will be done by a shortlisting panel who will assess and score each application which will then be submitted to the Severn Deanery. Shortlisted candidates only will be contacted by the Severn Postgraduate Medical Education by email to the address given on the application form. Candidates will then be required to accept of decline the offer of interview within a given timescale.
Interviews
When invited for interview you will be asked to book an interview slot, there are usually 4 choices of times available. You must allow 2 1/2 hours for the whole interview process.
When you arrive for your interview you are asked to report to the reception desk and shown to the waiting area where there will be a timetable for the interviews for you to look at and staff will be waiting to process your paperwork prior to your interview.
Interviews consist of 4 stations with 10 minutes preparation time before each station. The stations normally consist of clinical scenario, teaching/communication, clinical judgement and portfolio. The stations are not able to overrun so it is important to make as much use of the available time as possible by answering questions succinctly and effectively.
Offers will be made following the interviews and applicants will have 48 hours to accept or decline the offer. Once an offer has been accepted then you are expected to withdraw from any further interviews that you may have been offered.
